B.A. in Psychological Science

In addition to completing the Ethos curriculum requirements, students pursuing a major in Psychological Science must complete the following major program requirements.
  1. Introductory Courses (all required)
  2. Methods (all required)
  3. Experimental Content (choose 2)
  4. Social/Personality/Development Content (choose 3)
  5. Senior Capstone: PSYC 4901
  6. Major Electives (12 hours). An additional 12 hours of major courses will be selected by the student.
    • A student may select any 3000- or 4000-level Psychology course beyond those counted in the required areas.
    • A maximum of two (2) of the following courses— SOCI 2500, SOCI 3500, BIOL 2148, BIOL 3373, BIOL 3374, BIOL 3384, and EXCS 3305—may be applied toward the major with the approval of the advisor.
    • Students pursuing a double major in Psychological Science and Nursing may use NURS 3400 as well.

Notes:

  1. PSYC 1101, Introduction to Psychology, is the prerequisite or co-requisite to other Psychology courses. Some courses also have additional prerequisites. This course should be taken first.
  2. Since the program faculty views psychology as a research-based discipline, these courses provide the foundation for much of the upper-level coursework. It is strongly recommended that the student complete PSYC 2298 and PSYC 2299 as soon as possible after beginning the major. We suggest that 2200 is taken sometime after 2298 but before Senior Capstone.

Miscellaneous

No course with a grade below “C-” may be applied toward the major in Psychology. The only exception is PSYC 4000, in which a grade of Pass must be obtained. Additionally, a student must maintain a “C” average (2.0) in the major in order to graduate.
